Tanzania hopes to set up a wildlife authority soon

News coming from Dodoma one of the towns in Tanzania reveals that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is almost ready to open up its Tanzania Wildlife Authority, this information was provided to the National Assembly. Mr. Lazaro Nyalandu who is the Deputy Minister in the ministry said that the ministry was finalizing the establishment of the authority as well as assigning its duties and responsibilities.

He also added that a task-force on the establishment of the authority has visited the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and Ngorongoro Conservation Authority (NCA) so that they can know how they operate.  Nyalandu said the task-force was able to learn operation structures of the two authorities and in this way they can easily advice on how the new authority should be set up and operate. Responsibilities and structure of the authority would be ready by September 2012.

Mr. Nyalandu, while answering to the basic question by Mbogwe MP, Augustine Manyanda Massele (CCM) who had wanted to know as to when would the government move in the National Assembly a bill on the establishment of the authority, he said that drafting this bill will start in October and hopefully will be completed by December 2012.

He also said that section 8 of the Wildlife Conservation Act of 2009 gives the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism the mandate to establish the wildlife authority. The envisage law and late set up of the authority are expected to increase revenues from all tourists attractions like the forests, national parks and game reserves across the country.
