Tanzania’s tourism industry yet to recover

Reports from Kilimanjaro reveal that Ambassador Khamis Kagasheki who is Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism has guaranteed that Tanzania’s tourism industry was undergoing a rebound with almost six international airlines which are interested at Kilimanjaro International Airport. According records, it seems like the world just realized how great Tanzania’s northern zone as far as its  potentials are concerned and most attractive tourism destination so said the Ambassador Kagasheki while addressing at an occasion to receive Qatar Airways Flight QR 546 which marked the Middle-East airline’s maiden landing at KIA, on Wednesday.

He is noted to have said that although we are inaugurating Qatar’s flights to Kilimanjaro today, there are so many other airlines like Emirates and Turkish Airways which have already showed interest in including KIA to their different global destinations. Kenya Airways landed for the very first time at KIA that was about two weeks back and assured that they will connect Kilimanjaro with Nairobi with direct flights at least six-times in one week and also in crease on the number of times they fly in every day starting September 2012. Dr Harrison Mwakyembe Transport Minister officially handed the keys for the airline’s offices at the airport to the Qatar management and said the airline’s choice to include Kilimanjaro to its Tanzania’s flights log was highly appreciated since it was to benefit both parties.

It is very important to remember that the Kilimanjaro terminal is gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Parks which is one popular destinations visited by millions tourists from different parts of the world. This therefore means that the ability to identify their airlines with these legendary features also gave the companies more mileage.

Hopefully this  daily service connection from Kilimanjaro to Doha will help in some way improve on the rate of growth and also help the airport achieve its mission of becoming one of the most preferred gateway to the Northern tourism circuit of Tanzania so said Ambassador Hassan Kibelloh who is the Board Chairman for Kilimanjaro Airports Development Company (KADCO). He also said that they are very glad that Qatar Airways will fly to KIA a five-star status and as far as environment conservation is concerned, currently the management has started a campaign where they intend to plant 300,000 trees in the region every year.
