Kibale Forest National Park

Kibale Forest National Park is located in western Uganda, covering about 795 square kilometers of tropical rainforest, grassland, and swamp. It was established as a national park in 1993 and is known for its high diversity and density of primates. Kibale is often referred to as the primate capital of East Africa, with 13 species recorded, including a large population of chimpanzees.

The park is part of a wider forested corridor that connects to Queen Elizabeth National Park and plays an important role in biodiversity conservation. Its forest has existed since the last ice age and supports over 300 bird species, hundreds of tree species, and numerous mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Research and conservation efforts in the area are supported by institutions like Makerere University Biological Field Station.
