Semuliki National Park

Semuliki National Park is located in western Uganda along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. It covers about 220 square kilometers of lowland tropical rainforest, making it the only park in Uganda that preserves an extension of the Congo Basin ecosystem. It was first designated as a forest reserve in 1932 and later upgraded to a national park in 1993.

The park is known for its rich biodiversity, with over 440 bird species, 60 mammal species, and a variety of forest reptiles and amphibians. Semuliki is one of the top birding destinations in Uganda, especially for Congo-forest endemics that are difficult to see elsewhere in East Africa. The Sempaya Hot Springs are a major attraction, with boiling geysers surrounded by lush forest. The park also has cultural significance among the local Bamba people who consider the hot springs sacred.
