Itinerary
On arrival, your guide will welcome you to Rwanda. If time allows, you may take a short tour of Kigali, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial for an introduction to the country’s history. Kigali, perched at an average elevation of 1,600 meters, is not only clean and green but a symbol of Rwanda’s transformation. In the afternoon, transfer north through lush highlands and rolling hills to Ruhengeri, nestled at the foot of the Virunga Volcanoes.

After an early breakfast, report to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing. You’ll be assigned a gorilla family and begin your trek through the mist-covered forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains. The duration of the trek varies depending on the location of the gorilla family, but the moment you encounter them is unforgettable—an hour spent observing their behavior in the wild is a rare privilege. If time allows after your trek, you may opt for an afternoon visit to the scenic twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo (optional, at extra cost).
This morning, return to the park headquarters for golden monkey tracking—an experience that offers high-energy entertainment as these playful primates leap between bamboo branches. With only two habituated troops in the park, this is a unique opportunity to photograph and observe their lively antics. After lunch, depart for Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu. Relax by the water’s edge, take in views of the surrounding mountains, or stroll through the laid-back town.

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, visit any sites missed on your first day, such as the Kimironko Market or artisan craft shops. If time permits, you can also revisit the Genocide Memorial for a more reflective farewell to Rwanda. Your guide will then transfer you to the airport for your onward flight.
