Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your guide and transfer into the heart of Rwanda’s vibrant capital. Enjoy a guided city tour with visits to bustling local markets, the Geological Museum, and the Kigali Genocide Memorial—an essential and moving tribute to those lost in the 1994 genocide. It is a place for remembrance, learning, and healing. Later, check in for dinner and overnight at your Kigali hotel.

After breakfast, continue exploring Kigali with visits to the Nyamirambo neighborhood, home to Rwanda’s largest mosque, and the Batwa pottery project known as the Dancing Pots. Browse the Caplaki Craft Village, Kigali’s largest curio market, for handcrafted souvenirs. After lunch, journey west through the picturesque hills and valleys of Rwanda’s famed thousand hills. Arrive at the peaceful lakeside town of Kibuye on the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s great freshwater lakes.

Begin the day early with a briefing at the Volcanoes National Park headquarters. From here, set out on foot into the misty rainforest in search of Rwanda’s famed mountain gorillas. The trek can last from one to four hours depending on the gorillas’ movements, but the reward is immense—spending a full hour observing these majestic creatures up close in their natural habitat. After the experience, return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest.
Overnight near Volcanoes National Park
Today offers a second chance to track a different gorilla family. Each encounter provides unique insights into the behaviors, personalities, and family structures of these great apes. After the trek, visit the nearby town of Ruhengeri, also known as Musanze. Built on an old lava field, the town sits between the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, offering breathtaking landscapes and cultural charm.

After an early breakfast, begin the scenic return journey to Kigali. Along the way, enjoy views of Lakes Burera and Ruhondo as the rolling hills give way to the bustle of the capital. Upon arrival in Kigali, transfer to the airport for your international departure.
